About Community and Campus Life

Community and Campus Life fosters full participation for all by cultivating a culture of mutual respect and belonging.

Community and Campus Life is based in the Office of the President at Harvard University, led by our chief community and campus life officer. We support Harvard’s mission of excellence in teaching, learning, and research by fostering a campus environment where everyone can thrive and participate fully.

We promote full participation for all by cultivating a culture of mutual respect and belonging throughout the University. To achieve this, we collaborate with schools and units across Harvard to share best practices, support and expand programs that encourage engagement across differences, and support comprehensive pathways for participation for all members of the Harvard community.

Morning Prayers at Memorial Church

In her Morning Prayers remarks, Sherri Charleston urged the audience to lead with community by elevating pluralism as a guiding principle of our campus life. She stressed that pluralism in its truest sense means actively respecting, relating, and cooperating across our varied identities and ideologies. Charleston encouraged everyone to ground their pursuit of veritas in the dignity of every person and to connect our individual values to Harvard’s academic mission of pursuing excellence in teaching, learning, and research.

Here at Harvard, we have built a community of excellence composed of individuals from all walks of life. Our challenge today is to help all within our community to realize the benefits of learning, working, and living alongside others who come from various backgrounds, have had different experiences, and hold diverse viewpoints.
