About Sherri Ann Charleston
Sherri Ann Charleston is the Chief Community and Campus Life Officer at Harvard University, where she develops and leads campus-wide initiatives and partnerships to foster a culture in which everyone can thrive.
Charleston is a historian specializing in late 19th- and early 20th-century U.S. history and an attorney with expertise in constitutional and employment law. She earned her B.A. in history and African American studies from Columbia University, her M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Michigan, and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
Prior to joining Harvard, Charleston served as Assistant Vice Provost at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, overseeing a portfolio of campus services that included the Office of Employee Disability Resources. She also held faculty affiliations with the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies, where she taught courses on women, inequality, and the law, as well as the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis where she offered courses in higher education policy.
